10 Understand the Industry Salary Transparently for Precise Positioning #

Hello, I am your interview course teacher Yang Yukun. Welcome to the content of Lesson 10, “Understanding Salary in the Industry and Achieving Clear Positioning.”

Clearly Define Your Position #

I believe that by this point in the interview, you have already discussed salary. At this stage, you may be wondering if the salary you expect will be met. Here, I advise you to have a clear understanding of your position. For example, based on your years of work experience, overall understanding of the job market, and other factors, you can negotiate a reasonable salary that the company will consider worthwhile. So how can you strive for a salary that is more suitable for you? Many people base their salary expectations on their friends’ salaries. However, many fail to consider that everyone has different educational backgrounds, project experiences, and the companies they apply to. Therefore, salaries can vary significantly. It is important to evaluate your own situation accurately.

(1) If you are a fresh graduate #

If you are a recent graduate and are working in a basic position, the average salary is usually between 4,000 and 8,000 RMB. However, if you choose to be a programmer and have a good academic background, the salary can range from 10,000 to 15,000 RMB. Nevertheless, you shouldn’t focus too much on the salary. Finding a promising job is more important. I recommend having a short-term (1-2 years) career plan. I believe that in the near future, your salary will also double.

(2) If you have work experience #

If you are a candidate with several years of work experience in a specific field, and you have accumulated extensive industry experience, I believe that your rich experience can contribute to a higher income. You can compare the salary structures of well-known companies in the industry to assess your own salary situation.

(3) If you have project experience #

There may also be individuals who wonder whether they should continue to demand a salary increase or consider taking a pay cut when switching to a new company if their previous company paid higher than the market rate. I think this question can be considered based on your project experience. If your project experience is highly sought-after and rare in the industry and you have outstanding performance, it is reasonable to request a raise, and many companies would be willing to agree. However, if your work performance is average and you are only responsible for secondary projects, it will be difficult for you to negotiate for a higher salary. In this case, I suggest focusing on doing a stable project diligently, accumulating relevant experience, and laying the foundation for future salary increases.

Salary Reports for Some Industries #

The image below shows the salary report for a popular position in a certain industry:

Some of the information in the image is just a simple analysis. It can be seen that the salary growth in the entire Internet industry in 2019 is not very high, and it has decreased significantly compared to 2018. This indicates that many companies do not have a large budget for salary increases. Therefore, if you have too high salary expectations when choosing a company, it will be difficult to obtain an offer from your desired company.

For salary reports of other positions, it is recommended that you search for the salary range of the same position published by multiple companies on the LaGou Recruitment website and compare them to judge the salary increase for that position. However, generally, companies will increase the salary range to attract talent, so it should be considered with caution. For example, the salary situation for positions in the high-tech and Internet industry is shown below:
